Why Greene County?

Greene County isn't the flashy pick. It's not Asheville. It's not Nashville. And that's exactly why people who actually live here love it.

You get a genuine small-town feel with real infrastructure — municipal fiber internet up to 2.5 Gbps through GEA Connect, a solid community hospital, five high schools, and property taxes that won't make you cry. The Nolichuckey River runs through it. The Appalachian Trail is 30 minutes away. Andrew Johnson's homestead is right downtown.

And your dollar goes roughly twice as far as it does in most mid-size cities. Tennessee has no state income tax — one of only 8 states.

This isn't a tourism brochure. This is the real picture.

History

Greene County was established in 1783 — before Tennessee was even a state. Named after Revolutionary War General Nathanael Greene, it was part of the short-lived State of Franklin.

Andrew Johnson, the 17th President of the United States, made Greeneville his home. His tailor shop, homestead, and grave are all preserved as a National Historic Site right downtown.

In September 2024, Hurricane Helene brought significant flooding to the region. The community's response — neighbors helping neighbors, local businesses stepping up — showed exactly what kind of place this is.
